Obituary for Arthur "Patrick" O'Donnell

Arthur Patrick O’Donnell (“Patrick”), 57, of Wethersfield, brother, son, uncle, and friend to many, died peacefully on March 17, 2024, St. Patrick’s Day, at UConn John Dempsey Memorial Hospital in Farmington.

Patrick, as he was known to friends and family, was an avid fan of cycling, skiing, target shooting, and whatever got him outdoors. Patrick was raised in West Hartford, the youngest son of Arthur and Marion (Hale) O’Donnell. West Hartford is where Patrick called home, the foundation of friends and family for all his life. In West Hartford, Patrick owned his own landscaping business where he built a large, trusted group of clients that admired his skills, honesty, and hard work.

Now, if you had any trouble remembering good times growing up with Patrick, he was a flowing fountain of information with an extraordinary memory for details, always delivered with his striking unique humor.

Patrick grew up embraced by a loving family with grandparents and many cousins, aunts, and uncles. They were the foundation of his life.

Patrick was “what you see is what you get.” There was no pretense. When you met Patrick for ten minutes, you knew him, as others did, for years.

This world will miss Patrick’s humor, storytelling, and honesty that was his charm and our privilege to know.

Patrick was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Marion (Hale) O’Donnell. Patrick is survived by his brother, Joseph A. O’Donnell, and his wife Maria and their two children, Christopher and Michelle O’Donnell, of Simsbury; his girlfriend, Elizabeth Sousa of Wethersfield; and his countless cousins, family, and friends across the country and abroad.
