Obituary for Antonio Dias

Antonio Dias, 92, was peacefully called to his eternal rest on January 31, 2019 at UConn Health, Farmington, Connecticut. Born January 15, 1927 in Satao, Portugal, he immigrated to the United States in 1957 settling in the South end of Hartford in search of economic and educational opportunity for his family. After a period of declining health, he moved to Burlington 8 months ago to be cared for by his son. He was pre-deceased by Dirce, his loving wife of 58 years in 2006, brothers Eduardo, Silverio, Manuel, and sister Rosa. Tony is survived by his four children and their spouses: Feliciano and Cynthia Dias of Burlington; Jose and Holly Dias of East Hartford; Preciosa and Rick D’Annolfo of Old Town, FL; and Maria and Ken MacKay of Newington. He was cherished Avo to grandchildren Allison Dias and Stephanie Dias both of Newington, James and Carla MacKay and great grandchildren Caleb and Simon of Portland. He is also survived by brother Goncalo de Sousa, in-laws Joao and Luisa Gomes and Laurinda Dias and many nieces and nephews. Having worked most of his life in the construction industry, Tony found joy in family gatherings, the company of his friends and neighbors, and his legendary tomato, bean and rose gardens. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic and generous spirit. Visitation will be held on Monday, (Feb. 4) from 9:00 a.m.–10:30 a.m. at Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Square, Hartford. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004.
