Obituary for António J. Oliveira

António J. Oliveira, 99, of East Hartford, Connecticut passed away peacefully at home after a brief illness on May 12, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Murtosa, Portugal on November 11, 1922, one of eight children of Manuel J. Oliveira and Maria J. (Santos) Oliveira. In 1954, he immigrated to Venezuela to seek a better life for his family. In 1967, he moved to the United States, settling in East Hartford. He worked for The Wiremold Company (Legrand) for 18 years until his retirement in 1985. António was a devoted Catholic and a communicant of Our Lady of Fátima Church in Hartford. He was predeceased by his wife Gracinda in 2014 after 68 years of marriage. For many years, they enjoyed spending the summers in their hometown of Murtosa. He was also predeceased by son António A. Oliveira. He is survived by son Manuel J. Oliveira and his wife Maria Rosa of East Hartford, daughter Maria Julia and her husband Manuel Milheiro of East Hartford, with whom he made his home for the last 15 years; daughter-in-law Ausenda Oliveira of Vernon. He is also survived by his grandchildren Victor, Daniel, Margaret, Jennifer, Paulo and Marco; and great-grandchildren Katarina, Logan, Willow, Rachel, Juliana, Madeline, Grace, and Noah. He is survived by his brother João Oliveira and his wife Glória of Toronto,  Canada; his sister Albertina Lopes of Kearny, New Jersey; his sister-in-law Maria Reverendo of South Windsor;  and brother-in-law António Reverendo of Newark, New Jersey. He was also predeceased by his siblings Maria Rosa, Ana Emília, Augusta, Manuel and Domingos.  António  leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews and their families in Portugal, Canada and the United States.

The family expresses deep gratitude to the staff of ECHN – Visiting Nurse and Health Services of CT, relatives, and friends for the care, love and support they provided in his final days. Calling hours will be on Friday, May 20, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue in West Hartford, CT. The funeral procession will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fátima Church, 50 Kane Street, Hartford. At António's request the entombment will be at the Cemitério da Murtosa, Portugal where he will be laid to rest beside his wife. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in the memory of António J.
