Obituary for Anna (DiRubbo) Romano

Anna (DiRubbo) Romano, 95, of West Hartford, beloved wife of the late Antonio Romano, died on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at her home. Born in Casalduni, Benevento, Italy, Anna was one of 14 children of the late Cosimo and Maria DiRubbo. She immigrated to the United States with her husband Antonio and son Joseph. She had a variety of jobs but was primarily trained as a seamstress, at which she excelled.

Anna leaves behind her son, Joseph Romano and his wife Carmela Romano; her daughter, Rosemary DiGiacomo and partner Frank Cantwell; her two grandchildren, Alessandra and Michael DiGiacomo; her younger brother, Nicolino DiRubbo in Canada; her younger sister, Angelina DiRubbo in Italy; and numerous nieces and nephews in the United States, Canada, Italy, and Argentina.

Anna was a teenager during World War II in Italy and had many difficult memories of occupying German soldiers. She was a passionate person who believed in helping others. Anna loved to garden and to cook and was always sharing with others. A strong and independent woman, she and her husband built a successful life in a new country. Anna will be missed dearly by family and friends as she makes her journey home.

Calling hours will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, February 5, at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 6, at St. Brigid Church, West Hartford. Entombment will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Mausoleum, Bloomfield.
