Americo Santos, 86, of East Hartford, Connecticut passed away on December 19, 2019 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ermelinda Santos, his two children and their spouses, Alzira and Jorge Carvalho and Carlos and Margaret Santos, and his grandchildren Jamie Carvalho, Ashley and John Myers, Kyle Santos and Alyssa Santos. He is also survived by his siblings, Armando Santos, Carlos Santos, Idalina Santos, and Maria Victoria Sousa. He was predeceased but his parents, Claudio and Maria Pieadade Santos and siblings Eva Perreira, Maria Alice Ramos, Artur Santos, and Americo Santos. Americo was born in Maiorga, Alcobaca, Portugal on January 21, 1933. He immigrated to the United States with his wife and children in 1967. He worked for many years at Spencer Turbine and retired in 1995. He was an amazing man with a big heart who would help anyone whether it was family, friend or neighbor while never expecting anything in return. If he wasn’t in the kitchen enjoying his wife’s soup you could find him in his backyard with his prized possessions; his garden and flowers. He took pride in all the work he put into his garden each and every year and was always eager to hand out his fresh vegetables to anyone who walked in the door. Though he was always a man of few words, the way his eyes lit up even in his final moments as he looked at his family was telling of just how much he loved each and every one of them.

Funeral procession will be Monday,(December 23), 12:30 pm from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 1:00 pm at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford. Entombment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Calling hours will be prior to the funeral procession from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at the funeral home.
