Born and raised in Waterbury, Mr. Gizzi was the son of the late Alessio Gizzi, Sr. and Teresa (Viola) Gizzi. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and saw action in the Pacific. Following his discharge in 1945, he married the former Roslyn Ann Guglielmetti and settled in the Hartford area. They were married for 69 years, until her death in 2014.
A member of the Teamsters Union for more than forty years, Mr. Gizzi worked as a deliveryman and route salesman for Mother’s Pies and later for Table Talk Pies. He retired in 1983 but—bored in retirement—he went back to work for another seven years at the Cigna Insurance Company in Bloomfield. He was a U.S. Marine, WWII veteran and was proud of his rank of Sergeant.
Mr. Gizzi was a faithful parishioner at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Newington. Along with his wife Roslyn, he was preceded in death by twin brother Louis Gizzi of West Hartford, who died in 2007, and a younger brother John, who died in childhood.
He leaves a son John Gizzi, and his wife Colleen, in Washington, DC; a sister, Mrs. Mary (Gizzi) Zuella of Waterbury; two nieces, Marsha (Gizzi) Dube of New Britain and Teresa Zuella of Waterbury; a nephew, Richard J. Malvicini and wife Nancy of Newington; and grand-nephews Matthew and David Dube of New Britain, as well as a wide circle of longtime friends.
