Obituary for JoAnn Kelly Martinson

JoAnn (Kelly) Martinson passed away on June 13, 2017 peacefully. She was born February 2, 1943 in Hartford, daughter of the late Arthur Kelly and Leona (Piorot) Kelly. She was the beloved wife of the late Kenneth Martinson. JoAnn graduated from Conard High School in 1961. She had always dreamed of being a nurse and graduated later in life from Saint Francis Hospital School of Nursing where she received her RN degree. JoAnn worked at UCONN Health Center as a Special Care nurse in the NICU. She loved being a NICU nurse and adored the people she worked with. Her passion, commitment and kindness led to lifelong relationships with the families and babies she cared for. JoAnn was an active participant and a past co-president of the Saint Francis Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association. She was a communicant of Saint Brigid Church in Elmwood. She had been involved in the St. Brigid Home School Association, the Ladies Guild and an active member in the church community. JoAnn enjoyed traveling the United States with family and friends on bus trips, driving the New England Coast and enjoyed spending time at Indian Neck Beach in Branford. She was loved and admired for her generosity, sense of humor and dedication to her loved ones. She is survived by her daughters, Wendy Martinson of Newington, Stacy Martinson of West Hartford; her son Timothy Martinson and his wife Petula Martinson of East Hartford and a granddaughter Brooke Martinson; her sisters, Susan Kelly and Maureen McClay and her husband George McClay and several nieces and nephews, and numerous relatives and friends. Funeral procession will be Saturday, (June 17), 9:15 am from Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 am in Saint Brigid Church, West Hartford. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Calling hours are Friday, (June 16), from 4 - 7 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in JoAnn’s memory to the March of Dimes 500 Winding Brook Road, Suite 8, Glastonbury, CT 06033. A special thank you to Vivian and Maggie for their friendship and the very special care they gave to JoAnn.
