Obituary for Francis "Frank" Ruotolo

Francis "Frank" N. Ruotolo, 75, of Newington, CT, beloved husband of Margaret Richards Ruotolo, passed away on December 16, 2016, at home surrounded by his family. Born to Esther Boardman and the late Nicholas Ruotolo on February 12, 1941, Frank grew up in Hartford and Newington, CT. He graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1963 and received his Masters Degree in Education from Central Connecticut State University. In addition to his wife of 50 years and his mother, he is survived by his four sons, Frank of Newington, CT, James and wife Karina of Tinton Falls, NJ, John and wife Amy of Toronto, ON, Thomas and wife Allison of Atlanta, GA, daughter, Betsy of Eastport, NY and five grandchildren, Nicholas, Sarah, Zachary, William and Samuel. Frank loved his big family, friends and his home in Newington, where he lived in retirement and in Canaan and Falls Village, where he lived for 41 years while working as a Social Studies teacher and Department Chair at Housatonic Valley Regional High School. He also served as a volunteer member of the Falls Village Chapter of the American Field Service (AFS) program, which fosters international and cultural exchanges for students. He served as the Director of the Regional Adult Education Program from the 1970s until 2008. Frank developed a high school diploma program under the Foothills Adult Education Agency. Frank left a positive and lasting impression on the people whose lives he touched. He was fun, energetic, tough, compassionate, and loved to share stories with friends and family. We were given the gift of Frank’s life and we are so happy to have shared it with him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to The Falls Village AFS Chapter, c/o Ben Freund, Treasurer, P.O. Box 636, East Canaan, CT 06024. A Celebration of Life will be Thursday, (December 22), 12:00 pm at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Calling hours will be Wednesday, (December 21), from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
