Obituary for Daniel J. O'Brien

Daniel Joseph O'Brien, beloved husband of 27 years of Roseleen (Schuberth) Bartone O'Brien, the love of his life, passed away on November 18, 2016, with his family by his side. He was born in Hartford on December 22, 1939, son of William and Catherine O'Brien. He attended Hartford schools and worked at the Hartford Times. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War as a Staff Sergeant and earned various marksmanship medals and an honorable discharge. Following, he served in the National Guard. He was employed for 33 years by the Metropolitan District Commission. He loved going the MDC 25 Year Club Banquet each year reuniting with his friends.
He leaves to mourn his sons, Timothy (fiancée Sonja Mattson), Dennis (Holly) and grandchildren, Katelyn, Sean, Daniel and Meghan; his brother, James (Doreen), and sisters-in-law, Theresa and Jeanette O'Brien; his Bartone step-children, Anthony (Rhonda), Nicholas (Lisa), and Michael (Jamie); step-grandchildren, Jason, Heather (Joseph) Plank, Samantha, Nicholas, Nina, Sarah, Griffin, Briley and Spencer and great-granddaughters, Amanda and Leah. He leaves his Schuberth in-laws, Charles (Donna), Raymond, Gloria Fletcher, Dennis (Jennifer), Mary Haley, Anita (Richard) Sullivan and Kathleen Kapij. He also leaves the Brewer family; many nieces and nephews; his friends at Gold Roc and his former wife, Lillian O'Brien. He was predeceased by his brothers, Richard, William and Robert and his step-son, Joseph Bartone. Calling hours are 9:00-10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 5, 2016 at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark the Evangelist Church, 467 South Quaker Lane, West Hartford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Rocky Hill, CT 06067 or St. Jude Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Tomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. A private burial will be held at a later date. The family is grateful to the staff of Newington Rapid Recovery for treating Dan with such love, kindness and dignity.
