Obituary for Austin Joseph McGeough

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the loss of our cherished son, brother, grandson, nephew, friend, and proud soldier.

Austin Joseph McGeough, of Canton, formerly of East Granby, died unexpectedly on Saturday, October 15, in Tennessee, at the age of 21.

Austin was born April 16, 1995 in Hyde Park, New York, and graduated from East Granby High School in 2013. Austin was a specialist with Delta Company 2nd Battalion 327th Infantry of the 101st Airborne Division.
Always, a kind, compassionate, and generous free spirit. Austin left an everlasting impression and smile on so many lives and faces. He is so fondly remembered for his ability to always encourage and inspire all around him with laughter.

Austin is survived by his loving parents, Kimberly Read and her husband John, of Canton, Francis (Joe) McGeough and his wife Kathryn, of Amston. His beloved brothers and sisters, Jacob McGeough, Connor McGeough, John Read, Jacob Read, Aiden McGeough, Ella Rose Read, and Katelyn McGeough. He is also survived by his grandparents, Karen and Allen Oberg of Old Saybrook, Louis Goodin of Manchester, and Nancy McGeough of Levittown, New York, Austin was predeceased by his grandfather, Francis McGeough, and his great grandparents: Walter and Eleanor Wightman, and Bernard and Norma Goodin. Austin leaves so many treasured aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends to cherish his memory and he felt so very blessed to have each and every one of them in his life. Austin, also leaves, the love of his life, and best friend, Brenda, to whom he will forever share his heart, soul, and remarkable spirit. Every rainbow will remind us of his bright and colorful personality and amazing heartwarming smile. He will be truly missed and forever in our hearts.

Graveside Services with military honors will be held on Monday, October 24, 2016, at the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown, at 12:30PM. Calling hours will be held Sunday, October 23, 2016 from 5-8 PM at the Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen-Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford.
